Dynamic Body Balancing: A Blend of Craniosacral Therapy + Myofascial Release/Unwinding
a description of myofascial release and unwinding
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, bones, nerves and organs of the body. When our fascia gets twisted/bunched/tight/etc., it can cause major discomfort and restriction in our bodies (and in our spirits!). This tightening can happen as a result of all sorts of things: trauma of any kind, injury, illness, repressing emotions, growth spurts, pregnancy, childbirth, repetitive motion and just everyday life. Releasing your fascia, through this gentle form of bodywork, can help you feel so much better. Here are some things clients have said about their experiences with unwinding fascia:
Release of long-held emotions
Loosening of physical restrictions throughout the body
A feeling of “lightness”
Pain relief
a description of craniosacral therapy from The Upledger Institute:
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

This blend of bodywork is my personal favorite. I have been deeply affected by this work myself, and really like getting to share it with others. In one of our classes, my teacher (and creator of Dynamic Body Balancing) Dr. Carol Phillips said this (paraphrase), about the work:
Oftentimes, when we go in for a massage or a chiropractic adjustment, we lay down on the table and say, “Do me.”. With myofascial release and craniosacral therapy, we lie down on the table and the practitioner says to us, “You do you. I’m here to support you, as you do.”.
When you book a bodywork session with me, please come in wearing comfy clothes (leggings are great!) and with a water bottle in hand. We’ll begin by making sure you feel comfortable (we’ll talk for a bit and take a minute just to breathe) and then we’ll check for restriction (tightness) in different areas of your body (head, arms, chest, hips and legs). Next, I’ll turn on some tunes (you can bring a playlist of your own, if you’d like!) or keep it quiet — whichever feels best — and we’ll get to work. We can use the table, a stool and the floor to help as you unwind, from your head down to your toes. Sessions last anywhere from 15 minutes to about an hour, so come prepared for either end of the time spectrum.
Offered in Northfield, MN. For babies, children and adults.

I truly believe that so much good can happen for people who receive bodywork. For tiny babies, who are navigating the outside world for the very first time, this kind of touch can be so beneficial!!! Here are just a few things bodywork can do to help babes:
a grounded nervous system
easier time with breastfeeding/improved latch
deeper breaths
decreased overall tension in the body
better digestion (more poop/less spit-up)
relief from gastrointestinal pain and acid reflux
better sleep
fewer earaches
less pain related to teething
I believe in this work. I believe in the power of human touch and connection. I believe in the body’s ability to heal itself and I believe in the possibility of a life well-lived. Working with babies is a way in which I feel I can genuinely contribute to a little healing of our planet and to our human race. I can show you how to do this work on your babe yourself, too. <3

Something I’ve been taught over and over again throughout my years as a birth-worker, is that if a birth-giver is balanced, the birth is likely to be easier, more comfortable and less tiring. One of the ways we can create balance for ourselves is through bodywork. I’ve had the good fortune of learning from some of the most gifted bodyworkers and midwives in our state and I’ve blended the best of what I’ve learned from them and more importantly, what I’ve learned from the people I’ve served, into a super-yummy and effective body of work. Each session is unique and tailored specifically to you. Come in wearing comfy clothes and with a water bottle in hand. Each session lasts from 30-60 minutes, depending on what your body needs for that day.
Offered in Northfield, MN.
